Rhodesian with Horn

Natural horn shank with inlaid nickel silver ring, vulcanite military stem. 5 1/4" long, 1 3/4" tall, 3/4" bore and 1 1/2" stroke. 47g. 
 
Other than briar, is there a more instrinsically attractive material for pipes than horn? Its translucence, its variegation, its subtle coloring its sheen. Briar isn't hard on the eyes, either, and between the two materials there's a lot to contemplate on this pipe.
